Civic Award 2019
The Community Service Committee recently considered nominations for the Annual Civic Award.
The person they selected has spent much of his working life to the benefit of the Brixham Community. As a local coastal pilot, his invaluable skills and knowledge benefitted both the fishing and shipping community in Brixham and in the bay. He was an ambassador for Brixham in this capacity and was widely respected by his peers and the merchant navy fraternity at a local, national and international level.
Since his retirement he has continued to encourage and support Brixham life through his regular newspaper column in the weekly Herald Express and until recent times in the Brixham News.
The proposer and seconder state this person “has a feel for the Brixham community, expressing the concerns, fears and doubts of the community at large. He has the ear of those in authority and is always willing to express the general focus of opinion to enable our local community to be heard.”
Brixham Town Council today has pleasure in awarding this year’s annual civic award to Captain Bob Curtis.
