The Council has developed a Coastal Flooding Major Incident Plan that outlines the preparatory measures the Council can take on receipt of Environment Agency Flood Warnings for the South Devon Coast or if major flooding from the sea occurs.
Information about measures that property owners can take to reduce the effects of flooding can be found on the Environment Agency web site, or by calling the Environment Agency Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
Members of the public can help reduce the risk of flooding by telling us if they see blocked road gullies or obstructions in watercourses. Members of the public should also inform us of inspection covers lifting, or water ponding in roads during periods of heavy rain.
During periods of heavy rain, the council has to deal with flooding on the highways, and is not able to respond to individual incidents such as property flooding.
Torbay Council can be contacted out of working hours or in emergencies on 01803 550405.
Flooding from public sewers should be reported to South West Water on 0800 169 1144.
