Christmas in Brixham

Thank You

Brixham Town Council thanks everyone that took the time to venture out in the rain on Saturday 28th November 2009 for the first town Christmas market and then the lights switch on. The morning was lovely and sunny and the market was really busy, the white lights of the stall made the atmosphere really festive. It was a big success and was over subscribed by potential stall holders.
Despite the rain, a significant number of people attended the switch on event. Heart FM led the proceedings on the stage and Brixham College Big Band set the mood with the first performance of the evening. The schools entertained the crowds with their excellent singing. The students, children, teachers, parents and guardians are justified in being very proud of their performance.
Thanks also go to the Torbay Steam Fair Committee who brought an extra air of excitement to the event as Father Christmas arrived on an illuminated Miniature Steam Engine they provided. The Rotary Club aided Father Christmas meet the queue of children that formed after the lights went on. They even overcame a breakdown to reach Brixham in time. The whole day was a huge success. The town lights were switched on after a count down and the ‘Fairmile’ also switched on her lights which were wonderful. The extra lights around town added to and enhanced the whole display. The lights on South Quay Wall looked fantastic and congratulations go to Evie Marshall, Laura Prior and Harriet Eaton for their winning displays at Southern Quay. The winner of the Brixham Christmas Quiz was Cathy Craig who did brilliantly getting 39.5 out of 45.  Well done Cathy, the answers to the quiz are on page 6 of the January Brixham Signal.
Finally a big thank you goes to all the groups that helped with the Winter Sparkle Fayre and put on events. The week went very well; all the events were well supported and helped get the town into the Christmas spirit.
