Welcome to the UK Youth Parliament in Torbay

The aim of the UKYP is to give young people across the UK the opportunity to air their views to local and national government and organisations that have an impact on young peoples' services. Torbay’s UK Youth Parliament Member will represent Torbay’s young people at the UKYP’s annual sitting, in Exeter this year.

The UKYP is all about addressing the big issues which affect young peoples' lives such as things to do and places to go, affordable public transport, bullying and sex and relationships education. UKYP is run by young people for young people and provides opportunities for 11 to 18 year-olds from all over the UK to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change. They have over 500 elected members and thousands of supporters.

2008 elections

This year a record 21 young people are standing to become the next member of youth parliament.

The voting for the UKYP elections will take place in January (Wednesday 23 – Tuesday 29 January) when Torbay will announce its next two Members of its Youth Parliament. Torbay Council’s Youth Service, supported by the Democratic Services team, are helping local young people to run the elections and the count, which takes place on Wednesday 30 January. There will be various ballot stations across Torbay located within schools, youth groups and colleges.

2007 Elections

James Roddy won the Torbay UKYP Election and has really enjoyed taking on the role he was elected to perform as Member of Youth Parliament.
