Supporting people to live independent and fulfilled lives

New! Building Blocks to Recovery (on the Policies and Strategies page) is a strategy or plan around providing mental health, housing support, accommodation and day services in Torbay from 2011-2016.
Supporting People services support people to live as independently as possible. Services include supported and sheltered housing, a women’s refuge and ‘community outreach’ where workers visit people in their own homes.

If you want to access a Supporting People service (except a sheltered housing service for older people) you need to contact the Housing Support Referral Hub. The Hub can meet you where it is easiest for you, to talk to you about your needs.

The national and local programme

Supporting People develops and monitor housing support services. In Torbay, Supporting People is a partnership between Torbay Council, Devon and Cornwall Probation Service and Torbay Care Trust.
Supporting People in Torbay is advised by the Strategy Sub Groups. These groups are made up of Torbay Council, Torbay Care Trust, other referral agencies, voluntary services, people who use services, service providers, and other organisations who refer people to Supporting People services. There are six groups which focus on:
