Low Carbon Transport

What is Low Carbon Transport?

Low carbon transport refers to travel options that minimise carbon dioxide emissions from your journey though not using fossil fuels, such as cycling, or through ensuring that any fossil fuel that is consumed is used as efficiently as possible by carrying many passengers, such as a train.  You can see how much carbon dioxide is produced by your commute to work by using our Transport Carbon Footprint Calculator.

What are the Different Types of Low Carbon Transport?

The main types of low carbon transport in Torbay are walking, cycling, and public transport. Torbay Council produces a Torbay Transport Guide to help you travel around the Bay.
When you consider the true cost of running your car, public transport can often be a cheaper alternative to private travel. You can check how much it costs to run your car per mile by using the Car Cost Calculator (see Related Documents).
After having considered walking, cycling and using public transport to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions from your journey there may be some journeys for which you need to use your car. There are some things you can still do to make sure you’re not contributing any more to climate change and local air quality problems than you need to. Have a look at our Car Sharing and Smart Driving pages.
Finally, you can consider choosing a more fuel efficient car.
