Your Bill Explained


The council tax bill has a lot of information on it, which can appear daunting. The table below breaks the bill down, and explains the details for the different areas on the bill.

Liable Address
Example of the liable address.
This is the address and name of the person(s) liable to pay the bill





Location of the chargeable address on the bill.
Chargeable Property Address
Example of the chargeable address.
This is the address of the property that the bill relates to.





Location of the account summary on the bill.
Account Summary
Example of the section of the bill that summarises the account details
This is a brief summary of the account, showing the account number, the property band, and the value range of the band.

A summary of how the charges are made up.






Location of the reductions/penalties on the bill.

Charging periods, exemptions, discounts, benefits, costs, penalties, total payments made





Location of the payable amount on the bill.
Payment amount

The payable amount. If followed by CR, it means the account is in credit, and you may be eligible for a Refund.

Details about payment dates, if paying by direct debit it shows the date the money will be taken from the account, otherwise it shows the dates you need to pay by.
