Torbay Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra
Rehearsals take place monthly, usually on a Wednesday evening, from 6.00pm till 8.00pm in the Ballroom at Oldway Mansion
Torbay Youth and Community Symphony Orchestra
Rehearsals take place during day courses usually at Half Term or End of term dates in the Ballroom at Oldway Mansion. Those interested should apply in the usual way and then they will be contacted about proposed dates for the courses.
Torbay Youth Jazz Orchestra
Rehearsals take place monthly, usually on a Wednesday evening, from 6.00pm till 8.00pm, in the Ballroom at Oldway Mansion.
Torbay Youth Percussion Ensemble/Torbay Academy of Drums and Percussion
The Academy under the direction of Mr Colin Belworthy meets in Oldway Mansion, Paignton and takes the form of classes held on a Thursday evening (for 10 weeks during term time).
- “Bangers and crashers” (5pm to 6pm) This is a short-term introductory course, which will cover all aspects of percussion from Djembe, to Samba Band then basic stick and reading techniques. A basic sense of rhythm is all that is required.
- Junior Percussion ensemble (5pm to 6.30pm) This ensemble is for any student who has drum lessons and would like to learn and play as a group of drummers. This also introduces students to orchestral percussion techniques. Students must have simple music reading skills.
- Senior Percussion ensemble (6.30pm to 8pm) This is an advanced ensemble whose membership is by recommendation and/or audition. High levels of skill and musical reading expected (approx Grade 5+) and places are limited.
- Individual Lessons In the long term we hope to be able to provide additional individual lessons on the Timpani and for tuned percussionists (these are for established drummers and cost will be extra).
