Help a child to thrive
Almost anyone can be considered to be a foster carer for Torbay irrespective of age, gender, ethnic background or sexual orientation. Applications are accepted from single applicants and couples including those with or without children, those working and those who are not. Applications are accepted from within the Torbay area and up to about 30 miles from the Authority boundaries. The assessment process is detailed and will take about six months before someone would be approved as a foster carer.
Torbay Council is currently looking for foster carers from all backgrounds and levels of experience who can look after a variety of children. We urgently require carers with experience to care for children with complex needs and particularly to provide care and support to babies and their parents within a fostering home. Carers are sought to keep children together and to provide care to up to three children who are siblings. There are a number of children under five requiring carers currently who may eventually move on to an adoptive family. There are also a number of children of school age waiting for a permanent long term foster family. Torbay council also requires foster carers to provide care to children over a number of months during periods of difficulty and support them back to the care of their families.
Approved and registered foster carers with Torbay Council can expect a named social worker to support and guide you. A weekly allowance for each child fostered as well as an additional payment which recognises your skills and abilities. Monthly support groups and training is offered in addition to membership of a national support network and access to specialist support.
