Governing Body Support provides a range of services to equip governing bodies to fulfil their role in ensuring the best quality education for all children. The team is based at Tor Hill House in Torquay and is made up of the Governing Body Support Officer and one assistant.
Services for all maintained and academy governing bodies, clerks and headteachers offered through our subscription service include:
- information and induction training for new governors, associate members and clerks
- advice and information, including changes to statutory responsibilities
- confidential advice and support on legal and other governance matters by telephone and email (or face to face if appropriate)
- a training programme of centrally organised courses
- maintenance of a database of governor records
- in-house governing body training or consultancy focusing on governing body effectiveness
- an electronic newsletter circulated to all governing body members
- a range of good practice and model documents available through a separate login-in to a secure page for subscribers
Governing Body Support also administers the recruitment and appointment process for Authority governors and co-ordinates the election of Parent Governor Representatives on Torbay Council
