The advantages to buying a property outright are obvious. However, for many people in Torbay this is not an option. The dramatic rise in house prices over the last few years combined with local salaries remaining lower than average has meant that many local people are unable to get onto the property ladder.
Having said that, the Government have backed several schemes to help people who find themselves in this dilemma. These are usually administered by registered social landlords [RSLs] under the watchful eye of the Housing Corporation.
