Sustainability Appraisal

There are currently no documents out for consultation.
The THAAP Sustainability Appraisal (SA) and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) Screening Report and its accompanying Annex are still available to view on our Limehouse Consultation opens in a new window website and on the relevant web page (See blue bar to the left). Alternatively, reference copies are available at the Council's Libraries opens in a new window, Connections Offices and at Roebuck House, Torquay.

Sustainability Appraisal Process

Under the current planning system, it is a requirement for the Development Plan Documents (DPDs) which comprise the Local Development Framework (LDF) to be accompanied by a Sustainability Appraisal (SA). This process will ensure that environmental, social and economic effects of the DPDs will be considered during document preparation.  
Torbay Council is carrying out the sustainability appraisal work in-house, and is incorporating the requirements of the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Directive within the broader Sustainability Appraisal process. There are five stages identified in the appraisal process, outlined below:

Sustainability Appraisal Consultation

Consultation is an important part of the sustainability appraisal process and Torbay Council welcomes any feedback that you may have in regard to these documents. The following stages offer opportunities for you to get involved in the process:
When each document is adopted at the end of the process, a report will be produced which outlines how the sustainability appraisal process and the associated consultation has influenced the plan.

Appraisal Work Carried Out So Far

The LDF documents are at different stages of the sustainability appraisal process.  A brief outline of what is involved for each document is given below:
