BRIXHAM TOWN COUNCIL WELCOME TORBAY COUNCIL DECISION TO FORM WASTE AND RECYCLING COMPANY
Members of Brixham Town Council have cautiously welcomed Torbay Council’s recent decision to dispense with the services of waste company TOR2 at the end of their contract in July 2020 and replace them with a wholly owned subsidiary.
Pledging to work constructively with the Unitary Authority the council urged Torbay to include the introduction of Solar Powered Bins throughout Torbay as part of the authority’s Transformation Project when the new company is operable.
Speaking on the resolution Councillors commented that Brixham Town Council were cautious in their support at this stage because Torbay Council had not covered themselves in glory with their oversight of TOR2 in recent years.
“We should do all that we can in Brixham to assist Torbay Council as they prepare to make a significant change to the way that waste and recycling issues are managed in the future and demonstrate once again that we are a constructive partner for progress”, said Town Clerk, Tracy Hallett.
“The opportunity to introduce environmentally friendly Solar Powered Bins around the Bay should be at the core of the new company’s strategy under the auspices of Torbay Council’s Transformation Project. We can think of no better way for the company to make a big statement of intent from the outset”, she added
